Argao, a place should be!

Saturday, September 29, 2007
I had a short visit in my hometown “Argao” last weekend. This post is little late though. But what the heck, I am still posting some pics to show you that Argao is such a fine place to relax and feel serenity within.

Enjoy!

The famous church of Argao. Widely visited by University students during their educational tours because of it's very old structure.

The municipal hall. I missed this place because its where I religiously go to get my mail from super kids club when iwas still a grader. :-)

The argao plaza. On its background is the hall of Justice of Argao.

Feeling torista sa iyang lugar! lol!

My mom is finally got published on line...ssshhh...she didn't know about this.

This isn't a beach at all. It's somewhere near the abandoned "sea port" or what we commonly call, pier. Pero, pwede raka maligo gud...hehehehe..pait man gihapon ang dagat, mao ra istoryaa! :-)

The pier on my background!

Mao ni ang pier. Pwede ka mo ambak diha sa tumoy and get yourself a good dive!

Kung may "bahay ni lola" of course...meron din "tindahan ni lola"! (unsay ato mego, mega...tshirt??)

Five common office blunders

Friday, September 28, 2007
According to Cynthia Shapiro, author of the book "Corporate Confidential," it doesn't matter how adept you are at your job because if you make these five common mistakes, you'll never be a star:
Following your personal agenda. Many of us assume we know how best to approach our jobs, but letting your own judgment dictate your actions is unlikely to get you noticed or rewarded. If you're not working on what your company or your boss thinks is important, you are never going to be seen as a valued asset, warns Shapiro. If your goal is to move up the ranks, drop your own agenda and do what you can to further theirs, no matter how misguided you think it is.
Voicing negative thoughts. Are you the office kvetch, always ready to badmouth your boss or ridicule the company's latest venture? Watch out: You may be ruining your career. "When it comes to business, being positive is more important than being skilled," says Shapiro. The next time you notice yourself griping, ask yourself: Is it more important to say what's on mind, or to get that next promotion?
Complaining to HR. Companies tend to portray HR as a service for employees, but that isn't strictly true. "The HR people are really there to protect the company from you and they do that by keeping you close," says Shapiro. If you bring an issue to HR, they will only work to address your concerns if it is in the best interest of the company to do so. If your problem threatens the company or your job performance, the "help" they offer may, in fact, be an attempt to minimize the company's liability or to collect the evidence they need to push you out of your job, cautions Shapiro.
Being too smart. You may believe that the smarter you are, the more likely you are to gain recognition, but that's not always the case. Showcasing your smarts can make you appear like more of a threat than an asset if it isn't done with finesse. "If you want to be promoted then use your smarts in support of your boss and your peers," Shapiro counsels. Word to the wise: Never point out what could be done better unless your supervisor specifically asks for your opinion, and even then you should tread carefully.
Not knowing when to jump. There are a number of ways to gauge whether you're in danger of being fired: You have a contentious relationship with your boss; you haven't gotten a raise in a long time; you're consistently given the clients or projects no one else wants. If any of this sounds familiar, start looking for a job as soon as possible, warns Shapiro. It always better to jump to a new position than to get terminated. "You are 10 times more appealing to an employer if you're still employed," Shapiro says, "And if you get a job while you still have a job, it prevents your new firm from calling your current employer, and creates a seamless jump on your resume."

Salty Coffee: An amazing Love Story

Thursday, September 27, 2007

He met her at a party. She was so beautiful, many guys were chasing after her, while he was so plain and simple, nobody paid attention to him.

At the end of the party, he invited her to have coffee with him, she was surprised, but to be polite, she consented. They went to a nice
coffee shop, he was too nervous to say anything, she felt uncomfortable, she thought, please, let me go home.... suddenly he asked the waiter.

"would you please give me some salt? I'd like to put it in my coffee."

Everybody stared at him, How strange! His face turned red, but still, he put the salt in his coffee and drank it.

She asked him curiously; why you have salt in your coffee? He replied: "when I was a little boy, I lived near the sea, I like playing in the sea, I could feel the taste of the sea, just like the taste of the salty coffee. Now every time I have the salty coffee, I always think of my childhood, think of my hometown, I miss my hometown so much, I miss my parents who still live there". While saying that tears filled his eyes. She was deeply touched.

That's his true feelings, from the bottom of his heart. A man who can share his homesickness, he must be a man who loves home, cares about home, has ties to his home.

Then she also started to speak, spoke about her faraway hometown, her childhood, her family. That was a really nice talk, also a beautiful beginning of their story.

They continued to date. She found that he was actually a man who meets all her demands; he had
tolerance, was kind hearted, warm, careful. He was such a good person but she almost missed knowing him! Thanks to his salty coffee!

The story ended just like every beautiful love
story , the princess married the prince, then they lived happily ever after... And, every time she made coffee for him, she put some
salt in it, as she knew that's the way he liked it.

After 40 years, he passed away, left her a letter which said: "My dearest, please forgive me, I have been lying my whole life. This was the only lie I told you---the salty coffee.

Remember the first time we dated? I was so nervous at that time, actually I wanted some sugar, but I said salt. It was hard for me to change it, so I just went ahead.I never thought that could be the start of our conversation! I tried to tell you the truth many times in my life, but I was too afraid to do that, as I have promised not to lie to you about anything. Now I'm dying, I'm afraid of nothing so I can tell you the truth: I don't like the salty coffee, what a strange bad taste.. But I have had the salty coffee for my whole life!

Since I met you, I don't ever feel sorry for everything I did for you. " Having you with me is the biggest thrill of my whole life. If I can live a second time around, I would still want to know you and have you for the rest of my life, even though I have to drink the salty coffee again".
Her tears made the letter totally wet. One day, someone asked her: how did the salty coffee taste? It was very sweet, she replied.
LOVE is not to forget but to forgive, not to see but to understand, not to hear but to listen, not to let go but to HOLD ON !!!!

Don't ever leave the one you love for the one you like, because the one you like will leave you for the one they love.

Forget the things that make you sad .... Remember the things that make you glad.

What to Do When You Hate Your Job

Do you dread going to the office on Monday morning? If so, you've got lots of company.
With the unemployment rate quite low, you'd think job satisfaction would be high, since employers, theoretically, would have to coddle their workers to avoid losing them. But the opposite seems to be true. Employees are increasingly unhappy at work, according to the Conference Board, with only 50 percent of people satisfied with their jobs today. That's down from 79 percent in 1985. And if a recession is on the horizon, as many economists think it may be, the job market is sure to get tighter--and workers even edgier.

A few obvious factors, like low pay or excessive hours, drive down job satisfaction, but our global, technology-driven economy is also making it harder to find fulfilling work. Many of the pleasant parts of a job, such as dealing one-on-one with people, are being replaced by machines or more efficient processes. Sales junkets are being replaced by teleconferences, for instance; gut feeling is often overruled by computer modeling. Global competition often whittles down companies' profit margins, forcing them to ask their best professionals to work longer hours. Among people earning $100,000 or more, for instance, one third work more than 50 hours a week, according to polls by Zogby/MSN.

To get ahead, workers increasingly need multiple skills. In addition to a core competency--accounting, say, or software engineering--many companies expect their employees to be entrepreneurial and IT savvy and speak another language. To be able to keep up with all that, of course, you must be a master of stress management, too. And even talented employees are increasingly being hired as temps, dumped when a project is over or the job is shipped overseas. With employers demanding more, job security declining, and the need for efficiency squeezing fun out of the job, it's not surprising that ever more workers are unhappy.

So should you quit a job you hate? Maybe--but many disgruntled workers bail out too fast, mistakenly assuming there's nothing they can do to make their current job better. Simply switching jobs doesn't always make people happier, either. Sometimes it's not the job or the company that's the problem, but the individual. So before quitting, consider some practical steps to help deal with these common scenarios:

You're overwhelmed. Maybe the work is too hard, or there's just too much of it. Possible fixes: Hire a tutor or take a short, pragmatic course to help improve your knowledge. Ask for help--it sounds obvious, but many people don't do it. Trade some of your most onerous duties with a coworker who finds them easier. Avoid needless perfectionism and put aside the things that can wait (possibly forever). You can even hire a "virtual assistant"--usually, a live person in India--for $6 to $15 per hour, at sites like Brickwork India and Your Man in India.

You're not up to the job. Tempting as it is to blame others, sometimes employees just don't have the skills, smarts, or drive required to thrive at their jobs. But that doesn't mean solutions are out of reach. If tasks continually seem too difficult, for example, start or join an online professional group like those on Yahoo!, where people help each other solve thorny problems. Find a smart retiree who might tutor you. Tweak your job to make it more interesting; you'll be more likely to succeed. Ask trusted friends and coworkers to list your weaknesses--and insist that they be honest. Then gulp hard, and carefully consider their advice.

You have a nightmare boss. It often takes gumption--and humility--to work with someone like that, but it might be better than the alternatives. Instead of confronting a cranky boss, ask what you could do better; if nothing else, you'll earn a bit of respect for soliciting feedback. To deal with a hothead, have a tepid response ready so you don't react impulsively: "You make some good points. Can we meet later to discuss them?" If you feel you have to go over your boss's head, develop a face-saving premise for doing so: You'd like to approach a senior executive, say, because he's an expert in a subject you're working on.

If none of that works, and you've concluded that you have no choice but to quit, here's how to do it: Negotiate a layoff. It's better than just quitting. You might be able to negotiate a severance package, including a one-time payment of a portion of your annual salary and an extension of your health insurance. Plus, a layoff might make you eligible for unemployment benefits. In exchange, you'll probably have to agree not to claim wrongful termination.

Network for a new job--before you leave. Hit up your best contacts--sometimes, that can help land a new job quickly. Make the time to research jobs and careers that might best fit your skills or personality, to make your networking more effective. But if you're tempted to shirk at a job you know you'll be leaving, don't. It's unfair to your coworkers and could lower the quality of your references.

Prepare for a long job hunt. It might take a few months, so even though it's not ideal, you'll probably have to quit before you've lined up your next gig. Many people find that it's easier to stay upbeat by joining a job-seeker group. My favorite is the Five O'Clock Club.

Secure good references. If possible, get reference letters before you leave, so you can hand them out on the spot if necessary. Before asking your boss for a recommendation, set the stage by first finding something nice to say about him or her or the company. Reminisce about projects that worked well.

Hold your tongue. Don't bash your boss or your company in chats with coworkers, and try to stay positive in a resignation letter or exit interview--you never know when you'll need to ask for a favor. Don't bad-mouth your employer in job interviews either; it could get back to your former colleagues and ruin your reference. Besides, it's unseemly. If you can't resist dispensing a lecture on how to improve that asinine organization you used to work for, at least wait until you're firmly installed in your new jo

GLUTATHIONE- BEWARE!

Friday, September 21, 2007

It has been a trend in this tropical country that everyone who has a fair skin are to be "artistahin". Well, I couldn't blame people if they want to have a fairer skin. Ironic though since to begin with, we are in a country with only 2 seasons (the wet and dry) and people living in such kind of weather are not to be expected to have a white skin. Americans themselves who have naturaly white skin envy our "kayumangi" color. Whatever......:-)

As a result, there have been a lot of cosmetics/beauty products/medicines over the counters of every cosmetic stores that enhance the skin color. The most popular now is the Glutathione. But do you think that the Glutathione you have been taking in are all safe?

I got this articel on line, and perhaps this would help Glutathione takers aware of what they are into now.

***
NOT ALL WHO SELLS L-GLUTATHIONE ARE GENUINE, SOME ARE FAKE!!!!!!Others don't have enough potency to bring good results and others don't have the right formulation of components to stimulate the skin lightening process.

Not all L-Glutathione brands are safe. There are L-Glutathione brands combined with other components to which are not suitable to be taken orally. "Sheep Placenta Extract" often causes pimples or acne flare-ups and also in some cases acts as an appetite stimulant ,thus, causes gaining of weight. On the other hand, "Tyrostat or L-Tyrosine" according to some users and celebs causes whitening of the hair. These kinds of components are still questionable to some doctors and clinical studies. Another thing to be aware of are some fat-solouble vitamins like A and E. Taking more than the recommended daily allowance of such vitamins may result in hypervitaminosis since they aren't excreted immediately if there are any excess amounts unlike water-solouble vitamins.

Nowadays, skin whitening pills has been proliferating the market and the number of brands to choose from had increased by almost 50%. Again, do not be easily fooled. A true and genuine L-glutathione pill doesn't necessarily be in a fancy packaging nor wrapped in an expensive-looking bottle or box. We have done laboratory testing to some of the brands in the market today and surprisingly results showed that the total content of L-glutathione present in each capsule didn't even reached 200mg after claiming that it contains 500mg. Another discovery led us to a conclusion that some brands even contain Steroids which can really be detrimental to the user's health. Another thing to also take note is the packaging/label. A true and legitimate manufacturer of Dietary/Food/Health Supplements will never put an indication(i.e. "skin whitener", "it whitens/lightens the skin") on its packaging/bottle since Supplements shouldn't have any claims in connection to what the product can do. This is the reason why manufacturers always put "disclaimer" on the bottle.

We guarantee that our product is authentic and 100% genuine. It undergone a US-based standard of food and drug preparation which only assures its safetiness for oral consumption. We acquire our products directly from California where it is solely manufactured. Moreover, it passed the analysis (Assay Test) done by a laboratory duly accredited by the Health Bureau.

Please beware from certain sellers claiming that their products is genuine when in reality it's not. Be critical in checking it's authenticity and ask for proofs if possible. Timberlake hasn't spoken to Spears

Justin Timberlake had kind words about Britney Spears, but said he hasn't spoken to his ex-girlfriend in a long time and couldn't offer any explanation for her recent bizarre behavior.

"What do you think is going on with Britney?" asked talk-show host Oprah Winfrey during an interview with Timberlake that aired Wednesday.

"I don't know, to be honest with you. I haven't spoken to her in years," the 26-year-old singer said. "There's no ill will. I have nothing but love for her."

"It's funny because we dated each other at a time," he said. "Wow, I haven't talked about this in a long time, this is interesting."

"We were teenagers," he said.

"Famous teenagers," Winfrey added.

"And I think that's basically the best way to describe what happened to us," Timberlake said. "I think she's a great person. And I don't know her as well as I did."

Spears and Timberlake, both Mouseketeer alumni, dated for three years before breaking up in March 2002.

Timberlake wouldn't speculate about what's going on now with Spears, who has divorced Kevin Federline, shaved her own head, spent time in rehab and delivered a sloppy performance at MTV's Video Music Awards during the past year.

"What I do know about her is she has a huge heart and she's a great person," he said.

Asked if he's dating anyone now, Timberlake said yes, but wouldn't give her name.

During his appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," Timberlake did talk about his struggles to deal with the paparazzi who shadow his every move. He said tabloids try to turn celebrities' lives into soap operas.

"If two famous people are dating each other, what I've found and I could be wrong, but just in my personal experience, if you're not going to get married, then you're breaking up," he said. "It's one or the other."

Inday update

Wednesday, September 19, 2007
The lithe and blithe dancers were a sight to behold and the routines were impeccably executed, albeit extremely difficult and risky. Having incorporated a theme to their routine, theirs was a visual cacophony of timing, coordination and agility, a sonorous esprit de corps, proverbially rocking and rolling the coliseum.
Congratulations UP!

Emmys salute "Sopranos" with best drama win

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The U.S. television industry paid a final Emmy tribute on Sunday to "The Sopranos" and sent America's favorite mob family off with the prestigious award for best drama in a night otherwise filled with upsets.
The telecast took an emotionally charged political turn when veteran Sally Field took the stage for her surprise Emmy win as best actress in a drama in ABC's "Brothers & Sisters," playing a mom whose son ships off to serve in the Iraq war.

"I'm proud to be one of those women, and let's face it, if mothers ruled the world, there would be no goddamned wars in the first place," Field said to applause in a comment partially bleeped from the live Fox network telecast.

Still, "The Sopranos," which ended its six-season run on HBO in June, was the center of attention for much of the evening, despite being upstaged in all four of the acting categories for which it was nominated.

One of the biggest upsets came as James Spader of ABC courtroom series "Boston Legal" was named best actor in a drama series over James Gandolfini, the sentimental favorite to claim a fourth prize for his role as conflicted mob boss Tony Soprano.

"I feel like I just stole a pile of money from the mob, and they're all sitting right over there," said Spader, accepting his award and indicating the "Sopranos" cast.

Edie Falco, who had won three Emmys for her "Sopranos" role as Tony's long-suffering wife, lost out this year to Field.

But moments later, "The Sopranos" made Emmy history as the first American series to win the award as best drama for its swan-song season. The show, widely praised by critics as the greatest drama in U.S. TV history, won the same award in 2004.

"This amazing cast is really what it comes down to. It really is all about them," series creator and executive producer David Chase said from the stage after the show clinched awards for best directing and writing in a drama.

See how can a husband be soooooo romantic to his wife. Have a few good laughs this weekend!!!!

Inday - Made in the Philippines!

It has been quite a while that this particular Inday ( character ) conquered the cell phones of every Filipino in the country. The life of Inday has been an “everyday practical joke” forwarded to one cell phone to another. This phenomenon that Inday brings thru an anecdote of her life somehow takes away the stress of each of my country men. Inday is thought to be a very smart house servant with such a unparalleled kind of wit. This makes a perception that not all maids are stupid like everybody else thinks. Go inday!!!!!! Apparently, perhaps that what makes every joke so humurous. It’s amusing and admirable to think who started this. Thanks to you by the way. You make our day by creating Inday. 

However, long before Inday’s existence, a certain Ederlyn already did. She’s a character believed to be a socialite girl who also made her reign on every mobiles before. Ederlyn rumored herself to have a boyfriend named Armand and even envaded friendster and even guested in the Buzz. So funny!

Currently Inday and Ederlyn are in conlfict.....Wanna know why??? Then just read down below how the story of Inday started and some parts about Ederlyn too. Got these excerpts on line and some are painstakingly typed from my cellphone.

**************** The History of Inday

I believe that my trained skills and expertise in management with the use of standard tools, and my discipline and experience will contribute significantly to the value of the work that you want, my creativity, productivity and work-efficiency and the high quality of outcomes I can offer will boost the work progress.

- sagot ni Inday sa interview ng bago niyang amo!
**

The consistency was fine. But you see, it seems that the increased amount of sodium chloride (NaCl) affected the taste drastically and those actions are irreversible. I do apologize.

- nag-explain si Inday kung bakit maalat ang ulam.

**
Misis: Inday! Bumili ka nga ng mga isda! Oo nga pala, inglesera ka na nga pala ngayon. Would you please purchase many fishes for our this week's meals?

Inday: Judging from your statement, I believe you meant a variety of fish. The term "fishes", although rarely and erroneously used, connotes a plethora or an array of different kinds of the aforementioned gilled creatures. But the more pressing questions before I traverse the road to the wet market would be: What type of fish? Fillet or not? Frozen or just right smack the day's catch" (Pauses) Aaaaahh. By manner of careful extrapolation, given the neager budget and this household's quasi-peasant middle class taste, I assume then I will source the staple "Ga-lewng-gong", am I correct?

Misis: Leche!

Ketchup, much like marinara sauce and other cooked tomato foods, yields higher levels of lycopene per serving because cooking makes lycopene in tomatoes more bio-available.

Shopping Strategies for Healthy Foods

To eat healthy foods, you don't have to drastically change the way you shop. But these strategies will help ensure you have the right foods to follow your healthy eating plan.

Step 1: Plan ahead

Decide how many major meals you'll be shopping for. Then, consider the number of food items you'll need for breakfasts, lunches and snacks. Take an inventory of your staples, such as low-fat milk, fresh fruit and whole grains (brown rice, cereals and pasta).

Step 2: Make a list

A list will make your shopping trip more efficient and help you avoid impulse purchases. Try to stick only to what's on your list, but don't let your list prevent you from looking for or trying new healthy foods.

When making your shopping list, use your weight-loss menus as your guide. Make sure your list includes the food items you'll need to follow the menus. Also, be sure your list includes healthy and convenient snack foods. Suggestions include:

Baby carrots
Celery sticks
Broccoli florets
Apples
Oranges
Pears
Fresh berries
Grapes
Whole-grain bagels
Animal crackers
Pretzels
Salsa and baked tortilla chips
Low-fat cottage cheese
Whole-grain snack crackers
Reduced-calorie, fat-free yogurt

Step 3. Shop the perimeter of the store for fresh foods

Picture your grocery store in your mind. Chances are the fresh produce section, meat and seafood departments, and dairy case are all located on the perimeter. Great, because that's where to concentrate your shopping when using the Mayo Clinic Healthy Weight Pyramid. Fresh foods are generally better than ready-to-eat foods because you can control what extra ingredients you add.

Step 4. Shop after a good meal

It can be hard to resist buying high-fat, high-calorie snack items, especially when you're hungry. So set yourself up for success and shop after you've eaten a good meal. If you do find yourself shopping on an empty stomach, drink some water or buy a piece of fruit to munch on.

Step 5. Read food labels

Since May 1994, packaged goods sold in the United States have carried the Nutrition Facts label. This panel is an at-a-glance method for verifying how a food fits into a typical weight management plan. Each label contains information pertaining to serving size, calories, nutrients and Daily Values. This information can inform you about foods that are healthy, and warn you of those that aren't so healthy — often those that are highly processed or refined. Routinely checking food labels helps you compare the nutritional qualities of similar products.

Lamborghini Reventon

Exclusivity? Try Lamborghini's $1.4 million car

What price exclusivity? If you ask Lamborghini, one million euros ($1.4 million) should do it -- before tax, of course.

In a bid to add more prestige to what it already has, the Italian maker of super luxury sports car unveiled the Reventon at Frankfurt's international auto show, a very limited edition car that looks more like an arrow than anything on four wheels.

With this price tag, it is the most expensive car that it has ever built.

Needless to say, Lamborghini has already sold the 20 cars that it plans to build.

"As soon as the word got out, we sold out in four days," Chief Executive Stephan Winkelmann told Reuters, adding that they could have easily sold another 20.

Most of the buyers were men from the United States, Lamborghini's biggest market, he said.

Some of them are already owners of a Lamborghini, which competes with the likes of Ferrari in speed and exclusivity.

"We have among our customers movie stars, sports stars... (but) the majority of our clients are businessmen. Men. Lovers of luxury goods," said Winkelmann.

True to its tradition of cultivating an aggressive image, Lamborghini named the car after a bull that killed matador Felix Guzman in 1943.

Although it is based on its Murcielago LP640 model, Lamborghini's engineers took inspiration from a fighter jet and reworked the composite carbon fiber body to accentuate the sleekness and angular edges usually associated with its cars.

The engine is the same as the LP640: a 12-cylinder rocket that can propel the car from zero to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.

By comparison, the coupe version of the LP640 costs a relatively more modest 219,600 euros.

Lamborghini, which is run by Volkswagen's (VOWG.DE) Audi division, will start making the Reventon in January and deliver them in October.

The car, which came in an opaque gray at the auto show, has a three-year warranty.

Blonde Logic..." This made me laugh my ass off!"

Let's give ourselves a few good laughs today!

---Two blondes living in Townsville were sitting on a bench talking at night.
One says to the other, "Which do you think is farther away..........Melbourne or the moon?".

The other blonde turns and says "Helloooooooooo, can you see Melbourne...?????"

---A blonde pushes her BMW into a gas station. She tells the mechanic it died.

After he works on it for a few minutes, it is idling smoothly.
She says, "What's the story?"

He replies, "Just crap in the carburetor"

She asks, "How often do I have to do that?"

---There's this blonde out for a walk.

She comes to a river and sees another blonde on the opposite bank.

"Yoo-hoo!" she shouts, "How can I get to the other side?"

The second blonde looks up the river then down the river and shouts back,

"You ARE on the other side."

---A gorgeous young redhead goes into the doctor's office and said that her body hurt wherever she touched it.

"Impossible!" says the doctor. "Show me."

The redhead took her finger, pushed on her left breast and screamed,

Then she pushed her elbow and screamed in even more.

She pushed her knee and screamed; likewise she pushed her ankle and screamed.

Everywhere she touched made her scream.

The doctor said, "You're not really a redhead, are you?”

"Well, no" she said, "I'm actually a blonde."
"I thought so," the doctor said.

"Your finger is broken"

---FINALLY, THE BLONDE JOKE TO END ALL BLONDE JOKES!

A girl was visiting her blonde friend, who had acquired two new dogs,

and asked her what their names were.

The blonde responded by saying that one was named Rolex and one was named Timex.

Her friend said, "Whoever heard of someone naming dogs like that?"

"HELLLOOOOOOO......," answered the blonde.

"They're watch dogs!"

Joseph "Erap" Estrada...Guilty!

Thursday, September 13, 2007

Former Philippine president Joseph Estrada was sentenced to life in prison today after an anti-graft court found him guilty of plunder and barred him from holding public office again.

The courthouse was hushed as the 70-year-old movie star, who was ousted from office in an army-backed revolt in 2001, was sentenced. His son Jinggoy, a senator, was found not guilty of plunder.

"I thought the role of justice would prevail here but really it's a kangaroo court," Estrada, wearing a traditional Filipino dress shirt and his trademark wristband, told reporters.

Outside, about 300 supporters shook their heads in disbelief but remained peaceful. Their numbers were far below the thousands predicted.

Estrada hugged his tearful wife and daughter before being whisked away to his villa. He will stay there until further orders.

His lawyer said the infamous former playboy president would not try to delay his imprisonment.

"He has not intention of seeking special treatment. He's ready to move to Muntinlupa [prison] today," Rene Saguisag said.

The peso strengthened to 46.85 against the dollar from its close of yesterday's 47.12. It had fallen more than 1 per cent this week amid uncertainty over the verdict and the country's reaction to it.

The stock exchange was up 0.28 per cent, breaking a two-day losing streak.

Estrada has previously said he would appeal if convicted, initially at the anti-graft court itself. The case will also come up for automatic review at the Supreme Court.

Estrada was impeached for corruption in 2000 and was thrown out of office after the impeachment trial collapsed in the Senate.

But he remains a figurehead for opposition groups and, fearing a repeat of 2001 when pro-Estrada mobs tried to storm the presidential palace, half of the capital's 15,000 police have been deployed in potential troublespots.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who was Estrada's vice-president and was propelled to power on the strength of the charges against him, had been advised to stay inside the palace, which has been fortified with barbed wire and army trucks.

Estrada was charged with plunder, made up of four counts of corruption, involving diversion of funds amounting to about four billion pesos ($102 million).

He was also charged with perjury but was found not guilty.

The plunder charges included taking commissions in the purchase of shares by government insurance funds, pay-offs from gambling lords, diverting tobacco taxes for personal use and maintaining a bank account under a false name.

The perjury charge related to misrepresentation on earned income.

Estrada, hero of the downtrodden during years as a matinee idol, had called the charges trumped up and said he was hounded out of office by a coalition of the elite, including senior army officers, corporate leaders and Catholic bishops.

He is one of the most colourful characters in the rambunctious world of Philippine politics.

Born Joseph Ejercito to a well-to-do Manila family, he dropped out of school as a teenager, was thrown out of home by his father and took the name Estrada from a telephone book.

He shot to movie stardom at 24 and in 1998 was elected president by a record margin.

His win was viewed as a turning point in national politics because Estrada was not a member of one of the traditional dynasties.

But his term in office was marked by reports of policy decisions taken after late night drinking bouts, millions of pesos won or lost in gambling sessions and innumerable tales of mistresses and their lavish lifestyles.

Estrada has never denied that he was fond of wine or women, but has said that was part of his movie star life, and that he gave it all up when he became president.

Know the Latest Recommendations to Protect Your Heart

When I came accross this article, I thought of posting this since I suppose this is quite informative to many individuals especially to my fellow Filipinos who are prone to have heart diseases.

Source:
Thanks to Simeon Margolis, M.D., Ph.D

Lifestyle recommendations:

--Know the calorie content of the foods and beverages you consume. Calories per serving are always listed on food labels. Always note the size of 1 serving.

--Track your weight, physical activity, and calorie intake. Remember: to maintain weight, calories taken in must equal calories burned.

--Prepare and eat smaller portions. Use smaller plates and avoid eating directly out of carryout containers. Chew your food. To fill up before a meal, drink a glass of water.

--When possible, decrease time spent watching television, surfing the Web, and playing computer games. Take an after-meal walk or play with the kids.

--Incorporate physical activity into habitual activities. Gardening, walking the dog, and vacuuming all qualify as physical activity.

--Do not smoke or use tobacco products. Ask your doctor to refer you to a program to help you quit.

--If you drink alcohol, limit daily intake to 1 drink for women and 2 drinks for men. If you don't' drink, don't start. The risks of excessive drinking outweigh any possible benefits.

Food choices and preparation recommendations:

--Use the nutrition-facts panel and ingredients list when choosing foods to buy. Be on the lookout for sodium, sugar, and fat content, particularly trans fats.

--Eat fresh, frozen, or canned vegetables and fruits without high-calorie sauces and added salt and sugars. Avoid high-fat cream sauces and toppings. Accustom your taste buds to less salt.

--Replace high-calorie foods with fruits and vegetables. You can eat a larger volume of fruits and vegetables than you can of higher-calorie foods.

--Eat beans, whole-grain products, fruits, and vegetables to increase fiber intake. Fiber will help you feel fuller, but drink plenty of water to avoid uncomfortable gas.

--Use liquid vegetable oils in place of solid fats. Solid fats like lard or shortenings contain large amounts of saturated fat; hydrogenated vegetable oils usually contain harmful trans fats.

--Limit beverages and foods high in added sugars from sucrose, glucose, maltose, dextrose, corn syrups, honey, and concentrated fruit juice. Know the various names of sugars and then substitute with no-sugar-added products.

--Cut back on pastries and high-calorie bakery products such as muffins and doughnuts. Eat a piece of raw fruit or a serving of low-fat flavored yogurt to satisfy your sweet tooth.

--Choose foods made with whole grains, such as whole wheat, oats/oatmeal, rye, barley, corn, popcorn, brown rice, wild rice, buckwheat, triticale, bulgar (cracked wheat), millet, quinoa, and sorghum. These foods are high in protein and fiber and can be used to replace animal protein.

--Select milk and dairy products that are either fat free or low fat. But be careful of added sugar.

--Use lean cuts of meat and remove skin from poultry before eating. To keep these foods low in fat, avoid frying them.

--Limit processed meats that are high in saturated fat and sodium. Sausage and luncheon meats are especially high in sodium.

--Grill, bake, or broil fish, meat, and poultry. And skip high-fat condiments like tartar sauce or cream sauces.

--Incorporate vegetable-based meat substitutes into favorite recipes. Tofu, tempeh and other forms of soy protein can be used alone or with vegetables in stir-fried dishes, as well as spaghetti and chili.

--Encourage the consumption of whole vegetables and fruits instead of juices. You'll get less sugar and more fiber.

--Reduce salt intake by choosing the processed foods and brands with less salt and by limiting condiments such as soy sauce and ketchup. Check the label for sodium content and aim for no more than 2,400 mg per day.

And my own addition:

--Avoid all foods containing trans fats. Trans fats aren't just found in most margarines but are also prevalent in many snack foods containing partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated products. These harmful fats have been shown to raise LDL (so-called bad) cholesterol and lower good HDL (so-called good) cholesterol, which increase the risk of developing heart disease.

Clean Clothes and the Toxins They Hide

The clothes we wear and the way we keep them clean can actually shorten our life span. What role is fashion playing in your longevity plans?

In the United States, dyes containing benzidine - a substance that is easily absorbed through the skin - are no longer used because they are so highly carcinogenic.

Most of the clothing that we buy today is imported from other countries that in many cases do contain these dyes. Additionally, let's take a look at "no-iron" cotton fabrics.

These are treated with formaldehyde resin, the fumes of which can cause allergies, asthma, cough, fatigue, headaches, restless sleep, and skin rash. Your best bet for good health is to wear naturally dyed cotton fabric.

Hang Toxins Out to Dry
Traditional dry cleaning makes use of a chemical solvent, called perchloroethylene, to remove stains. The chemical residue of this solvent is toxic to humans; in fact, many people experience such adverse reactions from dry-cleaned clothing as dizziness, headache, sinus congestion, and shortness of breath.

Perchloroethylene has also been found to cause cancer in animals. Minimize your exposure to chemicals by airing out your dry-cleaned garments for at least 24 hours before putting them away in closets or drawers. Another better option is to seek out dry cleaners that use only organic, nonchemical cleaning methods.

Clean of Chemicals?
Laundry methods are not totally free of health risks, either. When we clean our clothing with chlorinated laundry detergent and bleach, inhalation can irritate or damage the lungs and upper airway.

Your healthy alternative is to launder your clothes in baking soda or natural detergent. Brighten those whites with borax or nonchlorine bleach. When you stick to the natural stuff, you will not only get truly clean clothes but also help save the environment from degradation.

Keep Moths Out Naturally
Moths spell bad news for your clothes and nothing is more aggravating than finding out that there is a moth hole in your favorite sweater.

Tempting as it might be, don't use mothballs. They contain a benzene compound that can cause cancer. Instead, opt for the natural alternatives: cedar balls or panels and dried citronella, lavender, marigold, and pennyroyal that can be purchased in herb shops. Another option is to place your clothing in vacuum-sealed bags for storage.

A Caution About All that Glitters
When your favorite silver ring is tarnished, before reaching for your jewelry cleaner, consider this: one of the substances commonly found in these cleaners is cyanide - the potent poison that can affect you negatively through fume inhalation and skin contact.

Though a seemingly small amount of toxicity, these exposures add up, compromising our health over the long term. Some simple nontoxic alternatives for jewelry cleaning can be found around the house. To clean silver, line a bowl (preferably glass) with aluminum foil and fill with three cups of hot water mixed with two tablespoons of cream of tartar, readily available in the spice or baking section of your supermarket.

Once this mixture dissolves, soak your silver jewelry for one hour and then rinse with water. For gold, use baking soda or toothpaste with a soft cloth.

I hope this blog finds you fashionably healthy! I invite you to visit often and share your own personal health and longevity tips with me.

May you live long, live strong, and live happy!

Britney has had her VMA moments

Wednesday, September 12, 2007

Britney Spears has had her troubles — child custody battles, rehab visits, unflattering paparazzi pictures and that whole head-shaving thing. Her performance at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, where she has repeatedly caused a stir, did little to improve her image. Spears sang, rather lip-synched, her new single, Gimme More, and traipsed around the stage in sparkly underwear. The performance just adds to the controversy of her checkered Video Music Awards past:
•2003: The kiss. Spears and Christina Aguilera took turns locking lips with pop's biggest diva, Madonna. And yes, there was an actual music performance in there, too. The spectacle started out with the teen queens paying homage to their predecessor's legendary performance of Like a Virgin from the awards show's first installment — stage writhing, wedding dresses and all.

Madonna then joined them on stage, sporting knee-high leather boots, a top hat and black tailcoat, to perform Hollywood off of her album American Life. It was about four minutes into the sexually charged performance when Madonna gently brought Spears up from her knees by the chin, softly ran her fingers across the younger singer's lips, and planted the most famous kiss since Times Square in 1945.

MTV producers accentuated the moment by quickly cutting to an obviously shocked Justin Timberlake, who had dated Spears up until mid-2002. Lost in the turmoil was an additional appearance by rapper Missy Elliott.

•2001: The snake. Spears sported a long snake across her shoulders during her jungle-themed performance of Slave 4 U. The set was complete with cages, a tiger and yet another skimpy Spears outfit, a take on how to make a bikini out of jungle leaves.

•2000: The skin. She ripped off a pull-away suit to reveal a skin-colored ensemble with liberally placed sequins during Oops! … I Did It Again.

She began the set by doing a provocative take on the Rolling Stones classic Satisfaction, seductively walking down a spiral staircase while belting her soulful rendition. But all the attention went to the clothes, or lack of clothes.

•1999: The schoolgirl. She sang her breakout hit Baby One More Time, with a routine that mirrored the song's music video theme of a high school classroom full of would-be backup dancers suffering through class. My, how things have changed.

In 9/11 remembrance, a turning to good deeds

NEW YORK - On Sept. 11, Jacob Sundberg of San Antonio has pledged to make eye contact and smile at everyone he meets. Kaitlin Ulrich will bring goody baskets to the police and fire departments in and around Philadelphia. And 100 volunteers from New York – 9/11 firefighters and family members among them – are going to Groesbeck, Texas, to rebuild a house destroyed by a tornado last December.

This is a minute sampling of the hundreds of thousands of people who have pledged to memorialize those killed on 9/11 by doing something good for others.

The heroic acts of all those killed trying to save others that September morning has spawned a growing grass-roots movement. The goal is to ensure that future generations remember not just the horror of the attacks, but also the extraordinary outpouring of humanity during the days, weeks, and months that followed.

"It was the worst possible day imaginable, and in some ways, a remarkable day, too, in the way in which people responded," says David Paine, cofounder of myGoodDeed.org. "We need to rekindle the way we came together in the spirit of 9/11: It would be almost as much a tragedy to lose that lesson."

Sept. 11 has inspired dozens of philanthropic efforts – from groups dedicated to building memorials to foundations designed to improve education in the Middle East. But myGoodDeed has a more universal goal: to turn 9/11 into a day dedicated to doing good – from small, simple things like Lisa Scheive's pledge to help stranded turtles cross the road in Pompano Beach, Fla., to lifesaving efforts, such as John Feal's decision in New York to donate one of his kidneys to help a seriously ill 9/11 worker.

The idea has been endorsed by members of Congress, and at myGoodDeed's urging, President Bush for the first time this year included a call for volunteering in his annual 9/11 proclamation.

After major disasters, Americans have historically tapped a deep reserve of compassion and reached out to others. But in the months and years that follow, those compassionate and civic urges tend to recede. Studies at Harvard's Saguaro Seminar on Civic Engagement in America found that in as few as five months after 9/11, most Americans had gone back to their daily lives and were not more engaged as they said they'd hoped to be. Part of the goal of turning 9/11 into a national day of service is to remind Americans of the inherent joy of giving and to hopefully spur volunteering and charitable acts throughout the year.

"I don't know of any research that's been done on one day of service, but studies have shown that people who do volunteering in high school are more likely to volunteer throughout their lives," says Thomas Sander, executive director of the Saguaro Seminar.

The idea of turning 9/11 into a day of service, charity, and good deeds came from the family and friends of one man: Glenn Winuk, a volunteer fireman and lawyer who worked a block and a half from the World Trade Center. After he helped evacuate his Broadway law offices, he grabbed a medic's bag and ran toward the smoke pouring from the South Tower. That's where his remains were found after the towers fell. Mr. Paine and Glenn's brother Jay had been friends for years. They decided that turning 9/11 into a day of service was best way to memorialize Glenn.

"It completely reflects the way my brother lived his life, and it also specifically reflects how he died," says Mr. Winuk, myGoodDeed.org cofounder. "He laid his life on the line for other people that day."

In 2002, Paine and Winuk sent e-mails to friends and family and suggested they do a good deed, such as donate a day's pay on 9/11. Then the idea evolved, and they founded myGoodDeed.org. In 2004, 100,000 visited their website and pledged to do a good deed on 9/11. This year, those pledging number more than 250,000.

"A lot of people don't know what to do on 9/11," says Paine. "This hits people in their heart and their soul. It connects with something that's fundamental."

I won....!!!!!

Tuesday, September 11, 2007
Just recently, I received an SMS from someone who said she is a representative of Days Hotel Philippines informing me that I was chosen among few of the many referrals to get a 3 days-2 nights accommodation in one of their branches in the Philippines. I did not believe it at first. So I phoned Days Hotel to confirm. Surprisingly, it was true indeed. I hurriedly went to their office to get the certificate. It was for two adults, valid until November of 2007. Dates of stay are to be confirmed by the recipient within 14 days from the day the certificate was claimed. I got the free accommodation on their Bais branch in Dumaguete. (Dumaguete by the way is a city situated on the plains of the southeastern coast of Negros Island.)

I thought of going to Dumaguete and avail of the price but it’s quite far from where I am now. I need to get a on a plane to be there. I am still quite doubtful because of the budget for the air fare. Lol. I would love to unwind myself from a very stressful life in the city of Manila. However, I also don’t have someone who could accompany me. Such a lonely life if I fly alone to Dumaguete and spend alone in the hotel. What the heck will I do there? No one’s gonna take pictures of me! No assistant in other words. lol. As of today, I still have 7 days left to think about it and look for that someone who I could get along with for a vacation. If in case, I’ll push through with this, I’ll post some pix here and make a blog on it soon.:-)

Oversalted burger leads to charges

Monday, September 10, 2007

I never did experience or even heard such a scenario as this here in the Philippines. Is it just because Filipinos are too "walang paki alam sa kinakain" or we are just too understanding towards our fast food crew in which Filipino are known of.

UNION CITY, Ga. - A McDonald's employee spent a night in jail and is facing criminal charges because a police officer's burger was too salty, so salty that he says it made him sick.

Kendra Bull was arrested Friday, charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct and freed on $1,000 bail.

Bull, 20, said she accidentally spilled salt on hamburger meat and told her supervisor and a co-worker, who "tried to thump the salt off."

On her break, she ate a burger made with the salty meat. "It didn't make me sick," Bull told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

But then Police Officer Wendell Adams got a burger made with the oversalted meat, and he returned a short time later and told the manager it made him sick.

Bull admitted spilling salt on the meat, and Adams took her outside and questioned her, she said.

"If it was too salty, why did (Adams) not take one bite and throw it away?" said Bull, who has worked at the restaurant for five months. She said she didn't know a police officer got one of the salty burgers because she couldn't see the drive-through window from her work area.

Police said samples of the burger were sent to the state crime lab for tests.

City public information officer George Louth said Bull was charged because she served the burger "without regards to the well-being of anyone who might consume it."

Ten Ways to Lose Friends and Alienate Coworkers

The people you work with can make a bad day better. They can even make a less-than-thrilling job tolerable. However, if you get on the bad side of your coworkers, they have the ability to make your work life miserable.

Read on for some surefire ways to test the boundaries of your on-the-job friendships.

1. Eat stinky snacks.
You may be the most likeable person in your office, but your popularity will definitely take a dive if you begin bringing in overly aromatic foods. If your lunch involves microwaving anything containing fish, leave it at home.

2. Make endless meeting requests.

Learn how to determine when it's absolutely necessary to schedule a meeting (and for whom attendance is absolutely necessary). A tendency to request too many meetings will irritate your teammates as well as making it look like you cannot move ahead on a project autonomously.

3. "Reply to All" all the time.

Don't make your coworkers' lives more complicated by hitting "reply to all" on every single email. Also, if you have a beef with the author of the email, don't air your grievance to the entire recipient list. Discuss your problem face to face.

4. Pump up the volume.

Be aware of the volume of your voice, as well as how loud you listen to music. Avoid using speakerphone unless you're behind closed doors. Also, check the volume on your computer the next time you watch a video on YouTube. The content could be offensive to a cube neighbor.

5. Be the office boozehound.

Socializing with the people you work with can be great for business. Make certain, though, that you keep a close eye on your alcohol consumption. Your coworkers will definitely lose respect for you if you start slurring your words or, worse yet, falling down.

6. Take super-long lunches.

Every now and again, it's fun to take a leisurely lunch out with your coworkers. However, if you do it every day -- or even every week -- people will notice and probably grow resentful.

7. "Borrow" magazines or newspapers.

If you're a "Brangelina" watcher and your colleague's issue of In Touch arrives announcing their separation, you may be tempted to take it. Instead of snatching up the magazine, deliver it to the recipient and ask if you can browse through it when he's done with it. If you cannot wait, go buy the magazine yourself. After all, tampering with the mail is a federal offense.

8. Use your manager as a referee.

It is inevitable that you are going to clash with your coworkers from time to time. Resist the urge to seek support from management every instance. Rather, try to problem-solve yourself -- it could help you gain important managerial experience.

9. Avoid attending company gatherings.

Not everyone looks forward to these events and, in fact, some folks avoid them altogether. This isn't good for your career or your work friendships. You're missing out on bonding with your work buddies, whether it be over a silly scavenger hunt or an ant-infested picnic. Your coworkers will begin to take it personally if you never participate.

10. Always have the last word.

When you do have the inevitable disagreement with a colleague, it's important to make your point. This doesn't mean you always have to have the last word. Learn how to voice your opinion and move on -- and let someone else have the final say once in a while.
